Jemma Whitelock
Volunteer
Hi everyone, my name is Jemma Whitelock, I have 4 children 1 daughter 3 sons.
One of my sons is autistic.
I have epilepsy and I am going through an adhd assessment, plus am also questioning if i may also be autistic too.
I am a fully qualified level 4 HLTA and have a level 4 SEND diploma, plus level 3 area senco award. I have also attended a 2 day autism course at williowdene school
I have worked as a learning support assistant in Riverside Specialist school plus worked the Riverside holiday club for 4 weeks in the summer holidays. I was working there for 2 years in both sites. I have also worked as a 1:1 in many mainstream schools. Up until 2017 when I had my 3rd son.
After having my autistic son and when he attended a mainstream school I have been educated massively by Emma Dalmayne on autism and how clueless I was as a Teachers Assistant to many things, which now as a parent with an autistic child; I have realised how badly the system is run in mainstream schools when supporting autistic children and their families.
I now realise I could never work in mainstream schools again and have dedicated myself to help families with children with SEN get the real help and support they need.
I joined the Greenwich Parent Carers Participation Forum last year to try help make changes and help support other parents and their children in getting the right advice and support they need, and now I am delighted to be volunteering for Autistic Inclusive Meets too!
