An Apology From All Of Us At AIM.

Autistic Inclusive Meets would like to issue an apology. We were invited by the Greenwich Carers Centre to have a table at their Carers Forum on Learning Disabilties.

We accepted and went along, only to find out that Positive Behaviour Support was being promoted and supplied by the Oxleas Learning Disabilty Team Psychologist who spoke there.

I spoke afterwards about the services that AIM provide, ending with the fact that we do not promote or support Applied Behavioral Analysis or Positive Behaviour Support as they are harmful to autistic people.

ABA is proven to cause Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The Psychologist as you will hear, challenged and disagreed with me stating that PBS uses a person centred approach, I challenged back asking if rewards and motivators were used.

You will hear the Greenwich Carers staff member, asking me to please keep my views on it out of my talk. The Psychologist as you will hear continued speaking over her and myself. I explained I was being polite in answering the man's questions.

When I explained that as an autistic person I felt I had to say something as both ABA and PBS cause PTSD, you will hear the staff member reply that if I can just tell people about my group that would be 'great'.

This event had parents and carers of disabled adults and children present, plus disabled adults themselves. I as a disabled adult, in my view, was treated appallingly. The staff member was rude and patronising.

So this apology is to you, our followers, for accidently promoting an event that platformed PBS, it's not something we would ever knowingly do and we very much hope no harm has been caused by us doing so.

We will no longer be signposting or recommending the Greenwich Carers Centre.

Thank you,

Emma Dalmayne
